Anas b. Malik reported that Umm Sulaim narrated it that she asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about a woman who sees in a dream what a man sees (sexual dream). The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon bi m) said: In case a woman sees that, she must take a bath. Umm Sulaim said: I was bashful on account of that and said: Does it happen? Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Yes (it does happen), otherwise how can (a child) resemble her? Man’s discharge (i. e. sperm) is thick and white and the discharge of woman is thin and yellow; so the resemblance comes from the one whose genes prevail or dominate.
انس بی مالک رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ ام سلیم رضی اللہ عنہا نے بیان کیا کہ انہوں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے اس عورت کے بارے میں پوچھا جو خواب میں وہی دیکھتی ہے جو مرد دیکھتا ہے۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اگر عورت اسے دیکھے تو اسے غسل کرنا چاہیے۔ ام سلیم نے کہا: میں اس کی وجہ سے شرما گئی اور کہا: کیا ایسا ہوتا ہے؟ اس پر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ہاں (ہوتا ہے) ورنہ (بچہ) اس کے مشابہ کیسے ہو سکتا ہے؟ مرد کا مادہ (یعنی نطفہ) گاڑھا اور سفید ہوتا ہے اور عورت کا مادہ پتلا اور پیلا ہوتا ہے۔ تو مشابہت اس سے ہوتی ہے جس کے جین غالب یا غالب ہوتے ہیں۔
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the physical differences between men and women. Umm Sulaim asked the Prophet Muhammad about what happens when a woman has a sexual dream, to which he replied that she must take a bath. The Prophet then explained that this is because man’s discharge is thick and white while woman’s discharge is thin and yellow, so it depends on whose genes dominate in order for there to be resemblance. This hadith teaches us that we should respect the physical differences between men and women, as well as understand why they exist in order to have proper knowledge of our faith.
